If you're anything like me you love the look and feel of old oak furniture and beams ♥️ when we were building the new table in our showroom it would have been lovely to source a huge antique oak table but the reality is that it just wasn't practical or affordable. Here is where the Frenchic Browning Wax hack comes in...
A really simple (anyone who can use a paintbrush can do this!) and effective technique (which works best on rustic wood) using Frenchic paint and Browning Wax to create the look of oak on beams or furniture.
Here's how to do it:
Ingredients:
Sugar soap (either concentrated or ready mixed)
A sponge
Fine sandpaper
1 tin of Frenchic Original Artisan or The Lazy Range paint in Creme de la Creme.
1 tin of Frenchic Browning Wax.
1 paint brush - I used the Frenchic Medium Oval Brush
1 waxing brush - I used the Frenchic Large Oval Brush
Method:
Give the surface your painting a good wash with sugar soap - follow the instructions on the bottle if using a concentrated formula.
Lightly sand the surface to give it a key - if painting beams or rustic wood you might not need to sand much if at all...
Brush off any dust with a soft brush.
Apply 2 or 3 coats of paint, letting each coat dry fully between coats - depending on the original colour of the surface you are painting, additional coats may be required.
Leave to dry over night and then apply the Browning Wax with a brush - I applied 2 coats but depending on the final look you are after you may want to apply less or more. Apply the wax in the same direction as the grain and work into knots and cracks to highlight the texture of the wood.
This technique is perfect for beams, table legs and occasional furniture. It is a decorative technique which isn't particularly hardwearing so I would avoid using it on a table top or anything that is going to get a lot of wear and tear.
Visit our showroom to pick up everything you need for this project - we love to see what you've been up to so send us a photo of the finished result. ❤️ Happy painting!
